Hey everyone,

A little history here... When I was in middle/high school back in Wisconsin I had quite an assortment of good quality birds mainly cornish bantams and call ducks. As a kid I did the best I could with them and my parents were awesome about carting me around the country to shows. When I went to college I was forced out unfortunately. After college and getting married we moved away from the city and I spent 5 years riding a very fun wave. This time it was mainly the runners and indies. Then it happened, the .com crash! It forced me to make a drastic move to a much more populated area and again to disperse the flock. I have spent the last 5 years in 4 different houses in various parts of the country due to work moving us around. Those days are over and we are working on buying a permanent house with some acreage. If everything goes through we will be in a place that will once again allow me to keep some birds.

Now the hard part will be to decide what to keep and what to not go for >.< Of course I sold my incubators and such so we wouldn't have to keep moving them so it will be a slow process getting things going again.

Now my questions... When I got out last time that farm bill was just going through congress... The one requiring registration and such. I didn't keep up on it at all. What are the details on it? What has it done to the hobby in general and the shows? What have show numbers and competition been like? We will probably have one type of bantam and maybe the array of bantam ducks. If I get my way there will be aylesburies and/or rouens around as well but I am not counting on that just yet.

Just need to get caught up on the state of the game and what all has changed since I left.

Dustin ??

Nothing much has changed. Some states, PA, DE, ( maybe MN ?) requiring more testing , AI, etc. to show but no registration that I'm aware of. I'm sure some of the others will fill you in.

Hey Evy,

Good to see you still around :)

Good to hear that the national registration stuff never materialized. That was the biggest thing I was unsure of.

How are things out your way? Staying dry?

Dustin,
In case you are interested, there is still a show the first Saturday of June at the fairgrounds in Richland Center, Wisconsin. We had well over 1,000 entries last year. I'll bet you have been there before.

Oh I definitely have. I grew up a half hour from RC. Here are a couple pictures that I had handy of the last 2 years I showed there.

Unfortunately with being in the Minneapolis area and likely just being moved in by that weekend if this all works out I probably won't make it down.

All the nasty stuff missed here. Beautiful 80 degrees. ( Dustin was the 1st person I ever shipped a bird to...almost 15 yrs. ago! )
Check this thread out as there is MN info there. http://www.poultryconnection.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5462#post5462

Yes, Evy saved my year that year! Late season loss of the only white drake I had on the place. He made 6 little pullets very happy girls that year.

Looks like NPIP is the ONLY way to go in MN... trying to keep track of testing otherwise would be a real pain. Definitely something to keep in mind.
