Eastern Iowa Poultry Show results

The Eastern Iowa Poultry Show was held this weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. Thanks to Phil Shank, Rex Felts & others for putting on this show. Here's the results that I know.

Best in Show & Champ. Large Fowl - White Plymouth Rock pullet, Large Fowl, Wisconsin;
Reserve Large Fowl & Champ. English - Buff Orpington pullet, Doug Akers, Indiana;
Champion Waterfowl & Champ Bantam Duck - White Call cockerel; Jim & Patti Zimmerman, Kansas;
Champion Bantam - White Wyandotte pullet. Jeff Halbach, Wisconsin;
Reserve Bantam & Champion Featherleg - Black Cochin, Larry & Mark Peterson, Minnesota.

It was a very enjoyable show, and the banquet Saturday evening was great too. It was the Western Wyandotte National meet, and there were more large fowl Wyandottes in Columbian, Partridge, and Golden Laced than I had seen at a show maybe ever. A very fine White Wyandotte cockerel took B.B. in the large fowl, and he was shown by Don Ryan of Minnesota. I believe the Kershaws of Wisconsin took reserve Wyandotte large fowl with a Silver Laced cockerel. Best A.O.V. was a buff pullet by Monte Bowen of Kansas. In the bantams, Jeff Halbach of Wisconsin took best on a white pullet. I believe, but not 100% sure, a partridge went reserve bantam, while Dave Lefeber's columbian pullet took best A.O.V. bantam Wyandotte. There were plenty of great birds that did not advance to champion row. In all there were well over 1900 entries for the total show. Doug, sorry we did not have the opportunity to meet, but congratulations for your fine win on the Orpington pullet.

Results of the Rhode Island Red Roundup were: BB large fowl, Bob Gilbert on his SC Cockerel and BB bantam, Kirk and Robert Anderson on their SC pullet. The Roundup drew 16 exhibitors whose entries were judged by C. Vic Stirniman. A RIR roundup for the 2009 show is already in the planning and is hoped that more exhibitors will "show-off" their Reds. Watch for more information in the Poultry Press and the RIR Chronicle.

Have you ever noticed the column of fine print down the left side of the website? If you click on "Pic of the Day" you will usually find one of Neil's pictures. ~gd

Actually, yes, I look at those pictures regularly. But I was asking if Neil had any more pictures from the recent E.I.P.A. show to put up. There were a lot of really good birds there, and he seemed to be taking a lot of pictures, so. . .
