Well I guess i am just too dumb to get in the door! I tried log-in 4 times, resistered again even though I had written down what I had used to register the first time. finally got email with the 21 character "key", went to the site listed on the email but couldn't find any place to use the key. By now the goosedragon is really steaming and I sure know where I would like to put that key! Guess I'll go watch TV and hope I cool down enough to get some sleep tonight.
I spent two hours trying to get on another forum put out by the same Vendor this morning. same stupid registration/login/21 character key, same humorous comment about all the rules to be followed etc. I finally got on that forum and it was so dificult to use that I spent over a hour doing the required 'introduction' and reading 12 posts, never did figure out how to actually reply to any of the posts. I guess I am going to have to hire some young punk to show me how these things work... or just forget about it. ~gd

Should be real easy GD. May have to have Java loaded to get in but it requires no key so I am not sure what was up with that.

I just registered and got in without any problem. Matt could be correct about the Java being current, I just updated mine this morning and got in without a hitch.
For the question about where the activation key is to be entered; the login page comes up, login using the password you chose. When the page reloads the screen will pop up for the activation key. Hope this helps.

yes it helps confuse me, matt says it requires no key, you tell me where the key should have been used (in the screen that pops up when you finish log-in) so I can only conclude (from your post) that I never managed to complete log-in and from matts post that he was somewhere else. I suspect that it is his homesite so to speak and he probably used the activation key (I suspect it is a one time requirement) so long ago that he forgot it was a requirement. or maybe he did his first registration and log-in before they had had the activation key and he was grandfathered in so to speak. like I am able to use a 4 diget password to get on here but I don't think it would be allowed if I had to start from square one here. The next rainy stormy night that he retires to the chat room I may try again. ~gd

No, you goof, you're the one that said he reregistered and couldn't figure out where to plug in the activation key. Since I just this morning signed up I could tell you why you couldn't find a place to enter it.
I do know it took two months before the showbirdbid would load for me. Nothing I did would get me past the screen "page not found" then suddenly some gremlin was lying down on the job because it opened.

Read it again robin, I (the goof) started out by trying to register the first time and I made written notes of the username and password used, then I tried to login and it kept telling me that either the username or password was wrong, after several rounds of that I figured I had managed to key in something wrong at registration. I then tried to register again using different username and password. the second time I managed to get to the point where it gave me the 21 character "activation code" which I carefully wrote down. if I remember right I searched the next screen for a place to stick the key and tried to log-in I never got to the point where something poped up for the activation code. So please, please tell me why I couldn't find a place to use it. What did I do wrong or fail to do? It is probably so easy that a child could do it, my problem is that I am not a child anymore
Or are you trying to tell me that the chat room guard gremlin just hates goosedragons? PS I don't know if I have Java on this computer (New). Once the child that managed to get me connected to the internet comes over again I'll ask him. I have at least ten programs on here that I have never heard of and have no ideal what they are for. heck I am having a hard time using the 2007 version of Excel and Word and even Internet Explorer that I had mastered on the 1997 and 2000 versions. Tool bars have disappeared and there is a big ribbon that I search all over looking for functions and tools that have been renamed or hidden.~gd

Sorry to say I'm no Spring Chicken anymore either. There are times I want to throw this thing out in the pond (vista) because I can't tell if its a bad sat connection, a website down or the dang computer.
Chances are you do have Java on your computer. You can do a search of your computer by doing a search, type in java, and when it comes up click on the .exe part of it. Then check for updates. Or you can actually search it on the net and download it.
When you tried reregistering, once you clicked on the link in the validation email did a login screen pop up? That's where you enter your user name (might automatically be there) then put in your password, the next window comes up for the validation key. In my case the number was already there. One of the things I do to avoid copying a key incorrectly is I highlite it in the message, right click, and copy. Then when I go to where I'm to enter the validation key, I right click with the cursor in the window its supposed to go in and paste it.
Man, that's about as clear as mud. One of the reasons I'm not a teacher.

Thanks I think the gremlin is a better answer since I was put into a loop at the login you mentioned, it kept insisting that one or the other or both of the username or password was wrong. Earlier I had managed to get into a message booard by the same vendor and something did popup with the 21 digit verification key already there.
It must have Java I'll look sometime. Vendor wanted to put Vista on this computer but I refused. What I really wanted was the old Office but he couldn't get a copy. I actually have had this computer in my hands to junk it. I am on DSL and the modem now sits by the screen so I know who to blame (Telephone company, the lights go out when it loses connection. I was loseing connection about every 10 minutes during busy times. I had to threaten not to pay my bill to get them out here. They found wrong wiring in the phone box and the connection (and my phone) have been great since. Sat TV not work as well as cable here, rains and the sat is gone.
I used to use that cut and paste trick but to many times the stuff just disappeared to that big clipboard in the sky? dummy was using cut and paste rather than copy and paste. Thanks for the help! ~gd

I HATE Vista, HATE it. I've been working with or on or something having to do with computers for nearly 20 years. Working with main frame data bases and UNIX, I hate Vista more than I hated Unix. So take your time about having to make the move to the new OS.
Same phone issues here except they never got it fixed properly so I had them take it out and went with Sat for the computer. No DSL available so it was my only option. We're in a drought so I rarely lose my connection because of rain.
Things have moved and changed so much anymore that if you don't keep things like Java updated on a regular basis the website you were on yesterday won't open tomorrow. Java notifies me when new updates are available so I don't have to remember to check.

I am basically computer illiterate, but I managed to make it into the chat room. Now I just need to catch an evening when people are there.
