Although I entered one last year under "partrige rock"(Btw, she got second) I was wondering how well a sex link would actually do as far as showing. Could it be considered exhibition? Or is it only classified as production?(Also, my avatar is a photo of her the day I got her back from the show)

Are you talking about 4H fair or a sanctioned show? A sex linked commercial bird is just that. At a fair you might have egg or meat classes.

Not 4H, not sure about it being sanctioned..Maybe just showing as any type...

Some fairs have egg production classes and that would be an appropriate place to show a sex-link. It is however, not appropriate to show a bird as a breed that it is not. At our state fair, we try to disqualify birds that are improperly entered as all that does is teach people what a particular breed is not. I wonder how many people left your fair thinking that a sex link hen was a partridge rock. It might not be a big deal to some people, but having to correct misinformation on this site and other places on a regular basis, it just adds to the confusion.

I agree with Rich. I'm really tired of seeing these judges and/or show officials who insist on giving a second place to an incorrectly entered bird, either out of laziness so that they don't have to deal with unsuccessfully trying to educate an unhappy, uninformed exhibitor (or the parents of one), or out of some misguided sense of trying to be nice. I'll probably catch some flack again about being too blunt with a newbie instead of encouraging (enabling), but I also think that anyone who is entering a competition has a responsibility to himself, to the other participants and to the organizers, to know and understand the rules BEFORE entering. This goes whether you're entering a poker game, tennis match or a poultry show. For most of the rules, join the APA and read the yearbook. For the rest, read the premium book, or ask the show officials if anything is unclear. For a list of recognized breeds and varieties, purchase the Standard of Perfection. It has a lot of useful information, no matter what aspect of poultry keeping you're interested in. Most exhibitors are more than willing to help and encourage a novice. Some of the more serious and knowledgeable are more inclined to help those who show some effort at first helping themselves, so that we see some evidence that we're talking to someone who is also serious, and less likely to waste our time.
I'd also add that you won't get ''show quality'' birds from a hatchery. Go to a sanctioned show, talk to exhibitors & see what you'd like to raise. Most are helpful & can direct you to a source, put you on a list or may even have birds available.

What kind of troll thread is this, anyway?
I mean srsly.

An honest one. People who come here get the truth, though not all find they really want it. There is always BYC for the "warm fuzzies."

The only reason I showed her that way was because I didn't know what she was back then, and I was sorta new to poultry..I have thought about it hard the last few days..I might not show her again..I may show a different bird, but it is not likely....I really didn't like the show much because when I met the judges they where a little rude..Also, If I had the money and a vehicle of my own, I still wouldn't be able to have a chance to go to one..
(BTW this may sound a bit stupid, but every one who has visited still mistakes her for the wrong breed. That tells how brilliant people, who don't even care, think they are..Also, did anybody ever bother to see how far in debt Arizona is right now?? I'm embarrassed to even live here..)

It sounds like exhibiting may not be for you. Arizona too. I still like both. I could give you many reasons why I like exhibiting, and three why I like Arizona: January, February and March.
