Does anyone have information of the Stockton CA. show. Is the catalog out? Who is Show Secretary to get one? Is there a web site?

The show secretary for the PPBA is Teresa Renwick and her email is renwickranch@sbbmail.com . The show is January the 24th and 25th in Stockton. They do have a website and that is http://www.pacificpoultry.org/ . I hear they have a stellar line up of judges this year  .

Thanks for the reply but my hotmail email isn't compatable with the show Sec. email address. Hotmail won't work. Can anyone give me a phone # so I can get a cataloge? Thanks

Hummer,

Sure hope we get an experienced judge on waterfowl. I hear there's a good waterfowl judge in Oklahoma! Hopefully he pulls those twisted feathers out of birds.

Well, I can tell you three of the judges are coming in on the same flight. There was a hitch in the plan when the original airline bumbed up the departing flight. Now we are on another airline with about the same schedule as planned. Once we hook up in Denver I got my preferred window seat and the other two are just going have to work it out who is setting in the middle  . We did not discuss the seating arrangements in the rental car but at Sacramento we gain Danny's wife and I am quite sure she will be able to get those arrangements settled quickly and we will be on the road to Stockton!!!! LOL.

As of today no decision has been made on the waterfowl judge. I am waiting for a response to see if they will announce it before entries are due.

Donna,

Yes, that is the correct entry form for poultry if that's what you are referring to......... :)

Chris I imagine they already have the assignments lined up, just haven't divulged the class judges for curious minds..............

As for the judges, I hear there is a "shady" character from Texas who will be judging!!

Yeah Lacy, you have to watch that one from Texas since he can be rebel. He does always see things in black and white and does not mind going out on a limb if he can justify it. They will probably assign him the weird and unusual and hopefully the other five judges can keep him tethered down :o .

I'm going to assume that you just emailed her? I guarantee you that she will get back to you. (also assuming that the email addy was correct) just have to be a bit patient. The job of Secretary/Treasurer can get to be a bit overwhelming the last couple of months before the show, not to mention Christmas crowds it's way in there ;-)

There are probably some people out there that know Hummer's sense of humor and could tell you it scares the begebbers out of them . I've already been given instructions to bring running shoes for Stockton but I I've also been told to be prepared to enjoy the banquet and visiting Saturday evening. They must think I might get some time off for good behavior!!!!!

Next time I phone Marie I will tell her to forever call you The Hummer.
I will try to catch up with you and say Hello while in Stockton.

It's hard to get Cecil away from the farm and he's now much of a talker. Now, when you do get him talking turkey he IS a talker and you'd better take notes! He did come in last weekend and I went over and we looked over the young turkeys. We happened to find a couple of young bronze hens with double rainbows and that got me talking!!!! LOL. It was the strangest thing but those hens ended up in my truck on the way home and already have a new boyfriend!!!

I was supposed to go to Marie's yesterday and meet some people for a little turkey round up but I had a duck round up and sorting party here!! LOL. I checked the long range forecast for the weekend and aside from a few showers through Denver and Sacramento everything looks good. I talked with Jim and Bonnie at Lake City and the preliminary numbers for the show were starting to look really good. I have always heard nothing but good things about the show and I am really looking forward to it.

Great show at Stockton as usual. Near 2,400 birds some unuausally large classes and some smaller ones with exceptional quality. Friendly people, easily accessable fairgrounds and a variety of winners. Can't wait till 2010! Very nice Plymouth Rock National with approximately 25 Large Whites and 21 Large Barreds.

I believe the large White Rock cockeral belonged to James Smith of Arizona. The Rock was also Reserve Show Champion. The Brown African was Show Champion.

Steve,

Thanks for the info. James does pretty well with his birds. Must have been some African to do that well. I'm sure you saw some nice large Brahmas again!!! Alan Feagley some nice birds. I know he had to rebuild his flock several years ago. His dark males have always been real impressive!

Yes, the African was pretty slick. I didn't even have to do any major groveling with the other judges on Champion Row since the Gander sold himself  . There was a lot of nice waterfowl to sort through. I had to improvise and ring for the Runners and it still took a while because the White Runners were all like peas in a pod!!! The largefowl classes were all pretty exciting with many nice birds. The AOSB class was exceptional with some nice Ameraucanas, Araucanas, Aseels, Shamos, Cubalayas, Moderns and Sumatras. With such a large class it is exciting to have such good variety to look over with a very nice Wheaten Aseel cockeral for Best and an nice White Araucana cockeral for Reserve. I didn't judge the Asiatics but I certain took my time to go back and review!!! LOL. There were lots of very nice large Brahmas there....Darks and Lights. I did a pretty thorough review and I didn't find a single Brahma that anyone could be ashamed of :P .

The show was great! Hummer, do you remember how many waterfowl there were? How many BEI's and how many Call Ducks? I am trying to put together a review of the show to mail to my BantamCallDuck yahoo group that YOU need to belong to also <smiles>

He told me it was Malhums white Call & that a Mallard was Res. bantam duck. Best duck & res. WF was a wht. Runner. The African was Ch. WF & Show Champ. Sounds like the big birds are ganging up on the little ones out there.

There were 147 bantam ducks entered but we never did find that one Australian Spotted!!!! It was a nice mix of bantam ducks with a little over 100 bantam ducks, about 30 good indies, a small but noticeable group of mallards and a couple of mandarins to round it off. The BB call was an old white drake and RB was an old gray drake. The white call was Best Bantam Duck and Reserve Duck. A very nice Mallard young drake was Reserve Bantam Duck. There were a lot of nice Indies there. They run the junior show with the open and the BB Indie ended up winning Champion Waterfowl in the junior show. The Best and Reserve Light Ducks were both White Runners and the BB won Best Duck and Reserve Waterfowl. A Buff duck was Best Medium and a Cayuga was Reserve Medium Duck. A Rouen hen was Best Heavy and then a nice Pekin drake was Reserve Heavy. On the geese and Egyptian goose won Best Light Goose and a Brown China won Reserve Light Goose (that was the largest goose class too!!!) Two American Buffs won the Medium Goose class. On the Heavy Geese the Brown African old gander won Best Heavy, Best Goose and Show Champion and the second place old Gander won Reserve Heavy and Reserve Goose.

You should have tripped me and said hello. It was a full day of judging and then we went right into the banquet so I didn't get to visit too much. I did get to visit with LilBit at the get together at the hotel afterward. I think we were the only one still around to see the raid on the rave party going on across the street from the hotel. I do not know how that many people missed it with a raid when there were 75 people down on the ground with cops with guns drawn and flashing lights everywhere but somehow most of the people who stayed at the hotel missed it. Clarification: Donna and I observed the rave raid and were not part of the party...yet!!!! LOL.

I was running around trying to get everything wrote down, but then someone stole my paper LOL
Thanks for the run down and refreshment Hummer.
I sat there at the table with yall at the banquet and so wanted to go have a drink with yall after the banquet, but being the scary town, I was a little worried too. On our way to Dinner with LilBit and her hubby the night before we watched someone get mugged as we sat at the light and then it turned green, pretty scary!! We knew something was up when our hotel said no visitors after 10pm and would have Stockton Police there. EEK! AND we were in the bad part of town so a local told us!
I heard about the rave and the bust, that had to be a adrenaline rush! It was for us when we were driving over the Siskus (sp?) in CA and the truck and trailer started to fish tail, I about wet myself!!
I am sure there will be other times chatting with you. You did a great job!! Thanks!

Correction!, Hummer and I only noticed the raid on the rave AFTER someone came out and told us to get down because the cops had their guns drawn...LOL Apparently we were quite absorbed in our conversation about call ducks

Hello Hummer, I tried to trip you many times, Unfortunately we never connected as I left around two. Came down with the flu. So lucky of you not to of met up with Christina and I.

We were the two hot chicks dogging you on Sat. while you were judging. I can tell you take your judging very seriously. Not to fret though, I will give Marie a complete rundown on my observations from afar.

Seriously I hope to introduce myself at the next opportunity. After many years exhibiting many animals, I understand it is inapporpriate to disrupt the judging process.

Great job, and I did meet Littlebit if she is the nice lady that was in the camper with us, the one that found those darn scissors. lol

It Sounds like this was a good show. We sent a few birds with friends, as we were unable to attend, and they did very well. Our large white crested black polish was res continental. I would love to know what beat it for best. We also had the best Pekin. If all those on here who knew someone that entered bantam white crested black polish would contact them and ask them if they brought home an extra by mistake to please contact me 928 485 8972. This was the first place hen and it was my 7 year old sons pet and we would love to have it back. I know that in the mass of boxing up birds sometimes people grab the wrong one. I have done this and luckly was able to return the bird to the owner. To make a long story short if you know anyone that showed these would you please ask them to check to see if they picked one up by accident. Thanks Shane Hawkins is Arizona. PS Steve what did you think of the large polish on campion row?

Ohhh, the Best Pekin was the Reserve Heavy Duck and he was very nice. I know the Best Continental was a Salmon Faverolle female (pullet I think). Yes, I think there was quit a bit of problems at the show with birds turning up missing and it got even worse at coop out from what I understand and they were not all dinky bantams either!!!! Shane, the Polish was nice. She had good body size and a beautiful full and even crest. She just needed fine points of grooming just before the show and I could tell you where you might find some pointers on putting the final polish on the Polish  .
