Every night I put the ducks in (calls) and every morning one is dead. I'm up to 5 dead now. No signs of illness. They are in the winter pen with my 2 mini goats. Same set up as last year. Every day they get let out to swim in the creek. Fresh water and food fed daily. I am clueless here. nothing has changed, nothing can get to them. the only thing I could think of was goat urine. Sounds crazy, but like I said its the only thing I can think of. But then again they were in the same pen last year. Any guesses?
Goats are playful things. Could they be using the Calls as a ball ? I've watched the neighbors' minis play & it's rough.
My only other thought is moldy feed.

I do not know what killed your ducks, but I'd get them out of there into different housing right away, today. Good luck, hope you can move them immediately. I'd be crushed if I found one of my little call ducks dead. Cath

My wifes pygmy goats have accidently killed ducks and on purpose fighting for food, I would get the goats away from the calls....

KYCALLS>>>>>is your goat addiction as equal as your call duck obsession?? hahaha happy holidays to you and your family my friend
Back to the post...
Agreed get them the heck out of there....they are probablly being batted around and bullied, hard to say without actually being there. The goats could also be jockying for first rights to the feed pails and in doing so a little ducky could get in the way and fall prey...
Keep us posted.
safe and happy holidays everyone.

We do not have goats, but I have to admit to being as nuts about my little white calls as I am my silkies. I wanted a small flock of calls a long time before I was able to get a pair from Claude. It took selling 1,500 in silkies, one breeder who baited/switched then kept my 300.00 plus and the ducks, but I finally have my flock thanks to Charlie. I can't even explain how much we enjoy them. In the summer we have company who come to sit on our wood swing to watch their antics. One neighbor,(32 yr old man), still comes over to play with them in the winter several times a week. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Everyone, Cath

the problem is simple.when ducks are put up they huddle together and goats lay down and sleep.smash.they must be separated somehow.

Hardly likely unless the space is extremely small. Ducks don't ''sleep'' like landfowl. They see perfectly in the dark & can be as active at night as during the day.
