Hi, I'm new at this hobby and trying to learn as much before breeding season as possible. I read thread that's been posted about hatching
eggs and laying them on side instead of standing them pointed end down. my question is do you lay them so they turn from end to end or
side to side. Thanks in advance

hi, I hatch my peafowl eggs on there side in the auto turn trays so they turn side to side and I also turn them over by hand once a day also

I always candle the eggs to check the quality of the shells before I set them in the incubator. Any with weak spots or cracks or anything else wrong with it gets thrown in the field. I just have a little table top incubator so no automatic turner for me. They lay on their sides and I mark each side with either an X or an O so you can keep track of what letter you're on for that turn and it also helps to know which eggs you've turned so far.

Good luck with incubating and I hope you get lots of babies this year! No babies for us this season - My mature breeder male, Strutter, decided to freak out during a minus 4 below snowstorm, get himself lost and eaten. I searched for days! No sign of him. I miss him - he was so tame that he would pester and pick at me while I tried to nap in my hammock in the summer. I have 2 of his sons and 3 of his daughters to work with for next year but I think I'll only keep 2 of the best and then bring in new blood for them next fall. So I'll concentrate on the chicken flock instead! Take care!

Sorry to hear about your poor Strutter! Ya think ya got a breeding program going and it gets sabatoshed! Last yr I tried incubating some and they were'nt fertile. I hoped to try again this yr, but haven't seen any action from Phil other than showing off his feathers. So, I guess I won't be expecting any, just hoping!
