I know it is really early to start thinking about this, but does anyone use tetracycline powder on their calls prior to, and during egg laying? I read about this in a book, I think it is "the call duck book". And if anyone does use it, where do you get it? Thanks!!
(It was used to keep the bacteria level down in the ducks during egg laying so as to help fertility and viability in the ducklings)

NO ! It's an outdated idea & just adds to the overuse of antibiotics & other meds when none are called for. A good commercial breeder pellet & clean water are all that's needed. Some feel that a TINY bit of Wheat Germ Oil (vit. E) helps, but be careful not to overdo that, as well. A teaspoonful mixed into a days ration of pellets is plenty for 6-10 ducks.

I forgot to mention that these oils (wheat germ or cod liver) should be kept in a cold dark place like a refrigerator.~gd

Thanks Evy! Glad I asked before I went out and tried to buy the stuff. I do know about the wheat germ oil. I give it once or twice a week on their treats-so they dont get too much. Hopefully I (and everyone else too) will have a better year hatching this year than last. Thanks to all!
