First egg of the season today!

This morning i seen the mandarin drake sitting on top of the nest box and his mate was not in sight, so i figured she was in the box checking it out or something. After a while she came out and flew down to the pond. Now, the last couple days her rump has been hanging low, so i figured any day she would lay an egg. So i go into the pen this evening to fill the feeder and i decided to check the boxes and low and behold, there was an egg in the box she was in! This is my first mandarin egg, so i am a bit excited! And it doesnt look like the Ring Teal and Woodies are far behind as well!! Even the pintails started breeding this week! Still have yet to see the GW teal breed, but the drake is doing his little mating dance/whistling which i think is hilarious!!

I got my first mandy egg today. However, it was on the gound and the nest boxes were empty. Even laid before the mallards this year. Single digits over the next couple of days should stop that!!! :wink: I live in the N. Illinois/S. Wisconsin region.
