I Got a email from a friend who is having problems with hatching large fowl chicks. He got a new incubator and he is hatching some of his chicks with crooked toes yet the chick was able to get out of the shell like the other chicks. They all look great just like the other chicks with normal toes, but these few have crooked toes and will never make it in the real world. He is getting about 15% precent crooked toes. Is the heat to high or to low or to low in humidity. I do not have a clue what to tell him. These are white rock large fowl show chickens on regular 15% egg laying pellets. Hope you can help me out so I can give him some advise. Bob Blosl Secetary Plymonth Rock Club.

Robert

the incubator must not be functioning high enough
that is what makes crooked toes
Also he needs to invest in a good themometer

yes, it is best if crooked toes can be prevented by proper
nutrition and/or incubator settings. But toes of newly
hatched poultry CAN be straightened. Read my article
