My wife is addicted to the Backyard Chickens Forum and I need help.....yesterday when I got on my computer I noticed that my wife had the BYC Forum up on her browser and here is what I found.
She had entered my best Silver Laced Wyandotte pullet in the "Cutest Chicken Contest", there was a picture of my hen with a stuffed teddy bear. She had gotten beat out by a SLW hen that was purchased at Murray McMurray that likes to lay on her back and pose for pictures with a plastic flower held between her beak.
She had given advice to a woman who had purchased a pair of Show Quality White Calls at a recent show for $40, the woman was upset because she had clipped one of the toe nails to short on her drake "Capt. Fuzzy" and it was bleeding. She was worried that her drake would be disqualified at the poultry show she was planning on entering them in and that the drake might get a staph infection in the disfigured toenail when she painted his toenails pink for the show...on a side note she is postive she is going to win best waterfowl with Capt. Fuzzy because how could anyone not give him the blue ribbon...he's so cute. Now mind you, that his head is so flat I could set a cup of coffee on this drakes head and a honey bun on he's bill. I am convinced she has purchased a pair of white mallards instead of calls..
They do Invertventions for crack cocaine additiction right? So I need some of you to drive down to Kentucky and help me do an intervention for this crazed huggy wuggy BYC thing. Please bring some rope with you, I think we will need it.

Good luck, Jerry  You see what happens when you even try to be diplomatic about that kind of nonsense. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31895 (http://www.poultryconnection.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=31895)
Guess this forum is like AA...you can come here to get help.

First, tell her to grow up. There's nothing wrong with that nonsense, if that's what she likes, but that stuff, even stretching it, belongs in the jr show, if at all, home in her backyard, or on those forums who cater to that kind of thing.
Second, if you're serious, stop enabling her. Despite that you recognize the foolishness of it all, you still have an air of humor toward it. You're sending her mixed messages.
Third, send her here. There are a few of us who don't tolerate that stuff, although it may quickly get locked, and further steps would need to be through private emails. Evy's a good, vent kissing, egg laying tough ol' gal that has some good recent experience with this sort of thing.
Finally, threaten to take away her birds and get her a kitten, or a doll. They're more appropriate for that kind of mentality. If she objects to being treated like a child at even the mention of taking away something, tell her to stop acting like one. If they're all your birds, tell her hands off.
If all of that fails, get her into crack. IMO, crack adddicts are one step above those BYC goers.

This is the best laugh I have had in months reading TPC forum during lunch. Pepsi out the nose and taco particles on the monitor.
Jerry- do what ever you think is necessary regarding your wife's unfortunate addiction. Rest assured that any number of us here on TPC will be willing to testify in your behalf at the trial.

BYC is the LA freeway of the misinformation highway. You mean everything on BYC is not gospil ? Darn another bubble busted. :( Guess all thats left is TPC and the Coop .
In all fairness, guys...BYC & the Backyard Poultry mag. does get people interested. Now, if they'd just get interested in the truth of the matter....
Confession...When I was about 7, I used to sneak the neighbors old bantam hen into my room. That ended when Mom discovered me & the bird both crawling with lice! Makes me itch to think of it !

I am just venting....I have tried to explain to my wife in a very nice way about this BYC thing and I have banned her from taking any more pictures of my poultry with stuffed animals....but she is the mother of my children so I can only be so mean to her about this. If any of you forum members have a legal background perhaps you could help me get a court order ban concerning her free access to the BYC site.
I probably need to add the other thing she has been doing on BYC..she has been particapating in a ongoing thread concerning her Seb eggs in the incubator. Apparently there are several BYC girls that all have hatching eggs that are going to hatch on the same day, so they update each other every day about how the eggs are doing...I seem to remember seeing pictures of their eggs (one woman had drawn smiley faces on her eggs) and something about how worried they were about the little eggs that wont hatch....anyway I am feeling a little sick to my stomach thinking about it. I wish I was adding a little artistic flare to all this, but I am probably understating most of it.

Well, I enjoyed the mental picture of Neil spewing Pepsi and taco tidbits around his work area... They have tacos in Ohio??? OK.
Laura H., you'd better pull that cutesie picture of you with the Dutch Bantam on your shoulder.... WAAAYYY too BYC-ish!
Evy - that lice story was all I needed. It took me back in time two weeks to Haynesville, LA, where I was struck by the uncomfortable sensation of crawling after a class of less-than-stellar Brahma large fowl. One downside of the beard is that it is just another place for them to roam once they make the transfer.....
KYCalls - if this isn't a prime opportunity for Dr. Phil or maybe some reality show

I think we need to find a problem worth talking about chickens, like what to breed to what to make what?
Any one got any ideas. Where is Breeder at?
Surely Evy has a problem with some of her ducks. Oh! forgot that would be on waterfowl exhibition forum. Well guess I will go there

Nope, no duck problems. No names or house pets except 2 cats & a dog either. Best laugh since the frizzle post though, even if I'm going to have to hurt Patrick for the 'ol gal comment!

Yes, WHEN YOU WERE 7. Reading mosts of those posts on BYC, makes me wonder just how many of those people are not 7 now. Come to think of it, it's either that or the crack that can be the only reasonable explanation for people to act that way, that I can think of.
What the heck, now that I'm sleeping with one eye open anyway, thanks to Evy, I'll say what I really think. Hmmm, maybe it's all a front. BYC really stands for Buy Your Crack. They're all speaking in code. You know what they're really shipping in those eggs, what's hidden underneath the outfits, and what they swap at their get togethers? Frizzled Silkie Naked Neck Marans is the primo dope that they're all trying to score. They tried to throw in Araucana to really throw off the feds, but none of them could figure out how to spell it.

Sam-
Whatchew mean. We got tacos in Ohio. Buy 'em at Kentucky Fried Chicken, the el primo supplier. Imported from south of the Rio Ohio. Sometimes I doctor them up with a little sauerkraut if family is coming over. Its a Bavarian thing.
Patrick-
The only crack I am concerned with is the White Rock Bantam hen (a good one) that seems to crack her egg nearly every day messen around in the nest box.
Evy-
We don't really name our chickens either but that Rock seems to think her name is "youlittle. . . . ."
