I was on eggbid and saw this. Anyone aware of this? Wonder if I would be in trouble because I raise English Aylesbury Ducks..............even though their great Great Great Granparents were born in in the U.S..........

Anyone with pet fish, birds, reptiles, or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Any company selling product or services for pet fish, birds, reptiles or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Would you be impacted by “The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act”? ? Virtually all fish in an aquarium are not native to the United States ? Most pet birds are species not native to the US ? Most reptiles kept as pets are not native to the US ? Hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets are not native to the US Under HR669, ANY animal not native to the U.S. would have to be placed on an “Approved” list created by the Fish and Wildlife Service, which does not have the manpower or financial resources to do it . Nonnative species includes virtually every bird, reptile, fish, and small mammal commonly kept as pets. Until an animal is placed on the “Approved” list, you would be banned from adopting, purchasing, selling, transporting across state lines, or breeding these animals.

Chris, I'm not in favor of that bill.

I skimmed it quickly, so please correct me if I'm wrong, after you've read it carefully. Your Aylesburies would be safe, for several reasons. First, they're domestic ducks. If you read closely, the bill included an exemption for domestic duck breeds, among other species. If they were to prohibit breeds based on where they were developed, they'd have to out the Pekin too, the staple of the commercial duck industry. They're not going to do that. Second, the bill clearly prohibits nonnative wildlife. Identified down to the species level, your ducks would still be considered to be derived from mallards, a native species.

Granted the hearing already is taking place, but I figure I would share this. I frequent a reptile forum as well, the people over there really have done a lot for everyone. Here is a link http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1684178,1684178 It just really amazed me the amount of effort people have put in to get this bill stopped. It really will hurt every animal trade.
