Someone on another forum was asking if a drake actually penetrates the female and I am thinking yes but there was some other people that said no. I assumed thats why ducks have a penis and chickens dont because of mating in the water the sperm would just wash away otherwise. I have watched my ducks and Im sure it goes in. otherwise why have one?

You're exactly right. Waterfowl are the only birds that do have one. They don't always connect but can't fertilize the eggs unless they do. Many will mate on the ground, as well, but water is easier, especially for heavy breeds.
