On Parade

I judged the Nebraska State Fair this past weekend and saw this man with his geese. The geese are in the parade every day and walk around the fair with him during the day. I am assure you my geese would not do this at a fair :)

My geese follow me around and come when they are called. I don't think they would do it at a fair, but they seem to be easy to train, and they are easy to herd.

I know that in times past, flocks of geese were herded out to pasture and herded to market.

These geese were actually so calm and content even with the large crowds it was actually pretty impressive. I got there Friday evening and that is the first time I saw them. They were bringing in the big draft horses and wagons for the arena show and the geese were walking by them and it did not even phase them. I know whenever I see a team of 8-10 big Percherons or Clydesdales it makes me stop and look. All I know is if I tried to dress up my Chinas and let them loose at the fair it would bring a whole new meaning to a wild goose chase!!!!!!! LOL.

Mine do that, too. My lead gander is my "foreman" and will "Take them out" and "Bring them in".


All I know is if I tried to dress up my Chinas and let them loose at the fair it would bring a whole new meaning to a wild goose chase!!!!!!! LOL.

That's something! I think about half of my Buffs would actually do that -but not in costume. I'd give a costume about 10 seconds, assuming someone was brave enough to try dressing one. LOL! While I personally disagree with dressing them up, it never ceases to bring me joy to see geese publicly depicted in a positive light. There's far too little of that.
