I made the mistake of putting a new hen in a grassy pen, and now she's crop bound.
I have removed her to and area with no grass, removed her food, massaged the crop several times over the past couple of days, fed her yogurt, oil,and baby food. The mass has shrunk.
My question is how long should it take to clear up if it's going to? She is having fairly regular bowel movements, and the ones from today look a little like matted grass. But I can still feel lumps of matted grass and grain in the crop.
And has anyone ever actually performed surgery to clean an impacted crop. Is there anything else to do for her. I'm willing to do what I can for her, but I'll buy another hen before I take her to the vet.
