We have a call duck with bumble foot. I have seen it said on this forum that one needs to clean out the sore, and pack it with antibiotic lotion. How do I pack it????? Any tape/bandages etc come off....
Also a source at the poultry supply company suggests keflex 250 mg. Does this sound right?
Thank you for your help with this...she's a great duck.

Does she have the hard bump? I ended up carving that out once when I didn't realize what it was. I thought she had a thistle or bee stinger in there. After that it bled like crazy and I put antibiotic ointment on that I had around the house. I have had to get pretty creative with wrapping bumblefoot, so don't laugh too hard but here goes. 3M makes a waterproof first aid tape that is skin colored and slightly stretchy(Walmart). I cut a strip about 6" long and slit both ends all but the length of what I need under the foot. I use bandages by 3M also that have the pad in the middle and the clear tape all around because they seal really well too. Over the bandage, I put the skin colored stuff and then take two slit ends and wrap around the "ankle". I wrap the other two up around the top of the foot, over the web, criss cross and wrap around the ankle too. Sounds confusing, hard to explain, but quite simple.
For ducks that don't have the corn like lump, I've used that rubbery shelf liner that has the holes in it and cut it the same as above and anchor with the 3M tape. It allows water in and out, dries out, but provides extra padding. One duck used to get it off all the time, so I traced her foot, and sewed little shoes out of the stuff and slipped it over the whole foot, looked so funny, but worked really well. Be creative.
The antibiotic I get from my vet that I keep on hand is Baytril, don't know much about others that may work.
