Good feed, occasional dark greens, clean water & a bit of cage training / handling all along is all they need. Extra vitamin suppliments can actually be harmful if you're feeding a good commercial diet.

It's your imagination. Once the feathers are fully formed and the bird is in show condition, the feathers no longer have any active blood supply from the body, so no vitamin, medication nor anything else that's given orally will be able to affect the feather condition. Any nutritional affect on the feathers is determined long before a few weeks before a show.
