Jacobins

Hi all, I have just this past week at the Kentucky state fair bought a pair of Jacobins--they are really nice and I am totally fascinated with them...now they have laid a clutch of their usual 2 eggs and I am wondering if Jacobins are capeable of raising theuir own young or if foster birds need to be used?? any feedback--greatly appreciated---thanks--greg::-?

When I had Jacobins, birds that were show ready were not ready to hatch babies. Most of the time if they were show ready then they we unclipped, both at the vent and the crest. I had a hard time getting fertile eggs unless I trimmed the vents and crests. Yes they can raise their own babies though. Not sure if this helps or not.

Serious breeders either clip the crest or use fosters. They probably can raise their own without clipping, but they'll be better parents if they can see all around, and it will be easier for them to feed. The young chicks especially can get lost in all of that fluff.

Thanks for your input---they have already got going with the incubation process--I will just have to wait and see....their Hoods are nice and full--however not extreme....again I appreciate the feedback--Greg:neutral:
