My first year going and my daughter wants to put her turkey in the Junior show. How many turkeys usually enter? There is only a minor mention of them in the show catalog.
On a different note, anyone know where to buy those green, metal ,triangular ,drop pens I've seen people with?
Thank you,
Stacey

Columbus generally has one of the best turkey competitions going. A few years back, the best Royal Palm in the building was rotting away in the jr section, wasting its full potential, when it could have easily been awarded best Palm in the open show. Maybe for the first time, have your daughter enter in Jr, to see what it's all about, but if she really wants to compete, she should learn how to condition her birds and enter in open, where most wins will be meaningful.
You don't want those pyramid cages for turkeys. They'll destroy their tail feathers.

Thanks Patrick, yes I think we'll just do junior show> Our good tom is only 2 and very nice but still not to his full potential. We will also put a few white wyandottes in the junior section, next year maybe in open.
I was interested in the pyramid cages for chickens, I think the turkeys would just walk away with it on their backs!

You still would be better off with the show style coops. There are many sizes, and they are so much more versatile than those pyramids. One of the manufacturers usually has a display at Columbus. Contact them now for the unusual sizes so they can bring some for you.
