Lucasville Champion Pastel Call

The Supreme Show Champion at the Lucasville show this weekend was a pastel call duck female by Art Ludgren of New York. One of the nicest call ducks I ever seen and then to be a pastel on top of that made her even more special. Reserve Btm was a white call by Charlie Hodum. Reserve Waterfowl was a Sebastapol goose. Don't know the owner. Just thought I'd share this great news. Congrats to Art.

It's a real tribute to the work Art's done with them & to the memory of Milt Shatz who entrusted Art with his birds when he knew he wouldn't be around to see this happen. He'd be so proud.

The Call duck class was huge-approximately 400 entries. I talked to judge Paul Monteith after he had spent almost the whole day judging the Bantam Duck class and he told me that the quality was very deep. He said that while the two winning ducks both had excellent type, if you were to read the Standard's description of pastel, Art's bird was exactly as described.

I got the feeling that, all else being equal, the exceptional parti colored part bird beat the exceptional white bird.
