I just found this story about back yard chickens in Fort Collins Colorado. Looks like one small step for Fort Collins = One giant leap for back yard chickens.
Enjoy

What Ft. Collins and other cities allow will not support what an exhibition poultry hobbiest must do. Going from egg to show hall realistically takes a flock larger than six birds. And if you want to produce your own stock it certainly takes a male.
There is great, renewed, interest in backyard poultry today. But that interest comes from the Mother Earth Martha Stewart crowd. Bantams, turkeys, waterfowl and a flock of 25 broiler chickens do not fit the model.
To preserve and expand the exhibiton poulty hobby we will have to look outside the city limits of all but the smallest towns.
I am very supportive of the three pet laying hens in an urban backyard craze but it is not the dawn of a new "golden era" of poultry like the last one in the 1920's and 30's
Wonder how animal control is going to deal with "spent pet hens" from the urban chicken coop. Hummm- for $50 each I will take them at my chicken retirement home in the country where they can live out their last days, damn few days, in the country. Plus shipping and box, of course.
