I've never been too concerned about feeding geese in the past - they have been raised on our lake (big, big pond) since I can remember - never paid a lot of attention to what they were "fed" - seemed like they were grazers. Now that I have them on a smaller place and no pond - what do I feed them. I am worried that they are not getting the proper "goose" nutrition. Please advice :?:

I feed my geese, ducks and chickens a game and turkey finisher and maintenance 16% protein pellet feed year round. I fenced all my lawn areas making it all "pasture" for the birds when the weather supports it.
They got tomatoes from my garden, grapes from wild grape vines, and now apples that fell off nearby trees. In colder weather I supplement their diet with whole or cracked corn, sunflower seeds, and various dark greens on sale at the grocery store, like kale, collards and romaine. The geese also take it upon themselves to prune the forsythia bushes and dogwood trees!

The three main staples of geese - grass, grass and grass. I have just 3 domestic geese (huge Toulouse) that free range on my property and they keep most of my 2 acre lawn short enough so I only mow once a month. I haven't had a cattail in my pond in years. They also get grower cal pellets and any food scraps from the kitchen.

We keep five trios of Pilgrim geese, (15 geese total) and they free-range all over our barnyard and lawn. They stick pretty close to the barn, horse pasture and pond. During the summer months they don't require any supplemental feed as they find all of their own food. During the winter we give them cracked corn and 16% layer, but they don't finish it, if they have access to grass. They are wonderful grazers, they do much better than sheep, and even though they are picky about the things they eat, they eat a lot of what they do like, keeping the lawn short and the pond cleaned off most of the year.
