I talked to Edith Rochette Monday and she said they had 2000 birds entered.

Any indications of numbers for the Modern National. Are you still headed there? I hope to weather holding and paperwork getting done.

Yes we are still going but Claudia and Tom A. are kicking and screaming about the weather and the time of year for a National in the Northeast. I guess I am too naive or haven't ever experienced anything that would make me agree with them.
It is 22 degrees here in Central Texas and we have people bailing from our show tomorrow just because it is too cold. No ice or snow just cold.
The Modern National is rather disappointing with just barely over 100, and only that after I made some calls. We have 11 varieties represented.

Here is the count, as of Tuesday, given to the set-up crew -
3,022 birds entered by 280 exhibitors.
1,992 bantam chickens and 187 bantam ducks.
I suspect that this is accurate.
It is normally an 1,800 to 2,000 bird show. Always well run and enjoyable. It is bigger and will certainly be even better this year.
No area of the country has a group of exhibitors that put more miles on the trucks going to far away shows than the New Englanders. This most prestigois show in New England has always been denied the ABA National because of "the weather might be bad", or "it is c o l d up there". Well it is more than likely the weather will be no problem.
I'm pleased to be able to support our frieinds in that part of the country.
This'll be only the 2nd one I've missed in 20 years & believe me, I've encountered some ''interesting'' weather. The hall is huge & heated ...not hot, but comfortable...lots of parking near the building & food is available there, but terribly expensive for what it is. There are lots of good eateries close by though, just don't take it back to the hall with you. .

Yes the trip can be an interesting one ....I recall the first trip down there for Mr Monteith and I ... we crossed over on a Thurday night...incase of weather. When we were crossing the border on the way down the Customs Agent asked where we were going ... Springfield MA I told him... " Tonight .... good luck you'll need it " was his reply... we did take a hotel just outside of Rochester NY for the evening... but it was much better the next AM . Neil you are correct the Congress is the premier show in the NE. Great people, birds and well run. Bob hope to have some there but it is that time of year for our northern birds...look forward to seeing many old friends that I have not seen in a while.

As long as the forecast holds it should actually be quite nice. They are saying highs in the 30's and sunny which, in January, is not bad at all. I think a typical show is well worth the trip and this year will be one not to miss. I could not make Ohio so am really looking forward to this one. I will have 7 Dutch entered in a group of over 100 and I believe the Rocks will have 166 registered as well. Should be a great time!

Heading to Arkansas to deliver my daughter back to college and leaving for Springfield on Thurs. Weather never stops a true chicken fancier, Neil, remember those trips to Bay City, MI in Jan. As George Shreffler always says" My best day at work was not as good as my worst day at a poultry show!" C'yall at the Congress!

Northeast is by far my favorite show . ye s- it is cold - and yes the weather can be an issue - BUT
let us not overlook the climate. It is the most friendly group of people who generally like to get out of their livingrooms in the winter and work their tails off for you . the northeast club is comprised of people from all over New England in differrent local clubs - who give it all up once a year so they can give us a great poultry show. It is that simple, and it really shows.
I love the "feeling" in the showhall of fun and cooperation. These New England folks know how to make you feel welcome, and they really support each other. Hats off to thier wicked good times!

That's a downright balmy forecast! Of course, a hip flask always helps to keep you warm too!

This will be our first trip up to the NEast poultry congress. We are quite looking forward to the trip and your glowing weather forecast makes me less nervous about the trip.

Matt-
I don't think you should be allowing these young boys to get into the Rolling Rock. Especially Canadian boys.
They are used to drinking that watered down stuff and they might get out of hand and start bothering the womenfolk. Before they pass out of course.

We better be careful or people may start to think that the consumption of spirits is an integral part of the congress.

From what I can tell it is an intragal part of a lot of ABA Nationals. In Florida they made us go into our own little room because we were disturbing the other guests.
Dress warmly, guys! They don't allow you to even bring your own bottles of water into the show hall ( so the vendor can charge you $3 ). Party in the parking lot ! :)
Bob
Recall your run in with Hotel Mgmt in Lake City.... was too late for me to catch up ....Neil I will take the Canadian Boys comment as a compliment as I think if you do the math... I am not that far off old guys like you. As for the bothering of the womenfolk... wrong Canadian... thats my Westend of Province brother... lol.

Isn't this the show where the ABA decides where to put their 2011 National?
If so, I'm hoping they do the responsible thing and place it with the Indiana group. A joint national is a great event and draws exhibitors from all over the U.S. and Canada. I had to miss the last one at Indy as I was having surgery so this one is definitely on my radar screen. Please do the right thing Matt.

I agree ! I'm sick of all the petty nonsense. Lou Horton put it very well in this months PP.
