Dave, check with Bev Davis. She lives in Florida and may be able to supply you with some chicks or started Marans in the spring. Her Website is http://www.bevsmarans.com.

I really would like some Black Copper Maran Chicks. My mother had some pictures of them in her house and she had some mid size figurerines of them as well. I just thought they were chickens until my brother told me what they were and why mom liked them so well. My dad was in the service and brought her some painting of some while he was on duty in France. Both of my parents are gone now but I still have the paintings and each of us kids got a figurine. I have a very fine looking rooster and now that I have searched online I know it is a Black Copper Maran.
Please let me know if you can help me find some chicks. I know they are expensive and that people have waiting list but if you have good information please let me know. Getting them in spring would be fine even early summer. It's just a boyhood thing. Thanks to everyone. Dave in Washington, NC

Hi Dave,
The Marans chicken Club is an active group going through the process of getting the breed recognized right now. Bev Davis is the club's president. We have had a very sucessful year. The club has a website up for more info http://www.maransusa.org
The Marans Chicken Club is definitely the best place to go to find good-quality breeders and friendly advice.

Thanks a lot. I went to the site. I have also talked with Bev by email and she thinks she can help me get started. She has put me on her list for this spring and she put me in touch with other people. I have also talked with a guy in Georgia. He goes by Buckaroo on BYC site. He will have some this spring also and he knows a guy in Georgia that also sells Black Copper Marans. Everyone has been very helpful. I konw I have to be careful though there are some people out there selling eggs and not being very truthful. I am only going to buy from reputable people. I know I might spend a little more but you get what you pay for mostly. Thanks again for the help. Dave in Washington, NC
