Default Evy, You were Right all along.....

So, been off the boards for a couple of years. Let Roger talk me back into lurking for awhile on a couple of the websites just because I haven't a clue as to what's been going on in the fancy. Been re-building my flock.....Anyways,

    GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN!!!

After 20 minutes perusing the Backyardchicken forum, I now realize that Evy has been right all along. No matter how may times you correct bad information, it just keeps on poppin up. I guess there really is no cure for stupidity.

    I'm so blown away.....

IMHO the biggest problem there is people tend to read only their own thread. The same question may have been posted and received a reply, then "ILuvDuckies" comes along and posts the same darn question and then gets upset If a hour goes by without a reply.

That is exactly one of the biggest problems. It is also compounded by the fact that there are so many redundant posts that they bet buried, 20-30 posts down, within an hour or so. I have tried to help those who appear to actually get it but have finally given up. The masses are happy within their own ignorant bliss and do not like anyone trying to change that dynamic. I no longer have the desire to fight that machine.

I cruise through there and pick a few by the title to read. My conclusion is that it is a social site, not an information site. It's not even really a hobby site; it's a chit-chat site.

What I do find valuable is under the meet-ups. There is a large group that does a couple of poultry swaps every year in my state. They sound like fun people and I plan to go, so I am following the progress. That is 100% social, although the occasional question about the birds seems to get a real answer.

Also, as far as I can tell, that's probably the best egg auction and there are a couple of show breeders who participate in the egg chains.

My preference is to "chatter" with the grownups, so I'd rather spend my social time elsewhere but I actually think it is nice that they have a place to discuss diapers and to ask for hatching buddies so they aren't taking up a lot of bandwidth on the sites that I do seriously check and read every word on.
