Well I'm a multitasking Red Neck. I can read multiple forums and groups at once. There is however tons of good info here. So no need to go home right at the moment but thank you for letting me know they miss me there.

I'll do the chickin swap rednecks of MO a favor too, and stay here with Angela. She's right, you can't educate those who refuse to learn. To paraphrase a scene from Bob's Country Bunker (Blues Brothers): "What kind of chickin swap redneck folks do you get in here Ma'am?" "Oh we have BOTH kinds, ignorant AND stupid."

I'd say we'd take you under our wing only if I can get away with it.

Hi. I am the CSoM member who found this thread. I've lurked for a few years on this forum, learning all I can. This thread upset me quite a bit. The only thing I could find that would even give Angela a slight reason to post what she did was a conversation with some hypochondriac idiot who felt they needed to vaccinate their chicks for everything under the sun. I don't feel it's right to judge a whole group based on a few interactions. I've also noticed that on here, in between posts making fun of rainbow and unicorn land there are several posts about people quitting and new people not joining in the hobby. Did it ever occur to you all that the attitude of poultry people like you might have quite a bit to do with it? I am fairly new to chickens. I had them growing up, but have only started seriously keeping and breeding them the last few years. I have taken the time to educate myself, and really wish other people were the same. And it gets frustrated answering the same question over and over again, but I do it because you never know who else might be reading trying to learn. Even if the person thinks they know more than me and ignores my information, someone else may be reading it and learn from it. Like me. I guess you guys don't have kids? Or I hope not, you all seem short on patience and manners, and I consider it highly rude to hide somewhere instead of just saying WTF you want where the people you are talking about can read it. I would like to get into showing someday, but it seems unless some "exhibition" breeder decides to make a pet of a newbie idiot city girl who thinks I'm a chicken farmer because I have a few (just under 30) poultry in my backyard (just under an acre) there's not really anyone experienced who will take the time to go over the ropes with someone interested in starting. So then people like me have to figure it out all on my own, while I'm sure there are people like you talking about what an ignorant idiot I am in PMs or some other fprum. So thanks a lot. I will go back into lurk mode, so I can try to learn, but it really makes it hard and kind of sucks that I and several others probably are afraid to ask a question and instead have to look up information which may or may not be correct simply because I'm not a member of your clique. And I'm sure I could find a few posts on here with ignorant questions and ridicule you guys, but I have more class. And if I say something I will at least make sure the person/group I have posted is aware of it and not hide and talk crap like, well, a chicken. Although I think better of my chickens than you people at the moment. Even my meanest hen pecking broodie shows more tolerance. So good day to you all, and this city girl says thank you. I've been working hard at qualifying for redneck status. At least it's better than being a stuck up rude country bumpkin.

    Well,
Obviously you didn't read back far enough. I'm not shy, and I had my say. I'm also not into being picked to pieces by someone who simply doesn't like what I say. Oh, and I give as good as I get. I'll not hang around and be flamed, nor will I keep it to myself. If you don't like having your bad behavior publicized, than act civil.

NO ONE on this forum minds trying to help or educate new people, but we have low tolerance for those who throw our knowledge and advice back at us. If you want advice, be willing to take it when it's offered, don't argue about it. That get tiresome after so many years.

Long ago, it was me lecturing the more experienced birders to show more patience. Now, I understand their impatience. Let's see how you feel about it in 10 or 15 years of being smacked around by people like you. Oh, and by the way, I took my licks as a newbie also.

Anyways, The Backyard Chicken has taken up residence on Facebook. Patrick, you are denied access. I say this out of concern for your health...I am sure that your head would explode if you spent more then 30 seconds there. Evy, join and enjoy the entertainment. You may be able to provide some insight, but it is unlikely that it will be absorbed.

For the most part, the folks appear to be friendly enough, but there are a few that define the description "Red Neck".

I'll beg off of this one I think.
Had to go back and check to see what started this fire-storm of indignation. This appears to be it. I'm finding it interesting that everyone who has responded to this post, has put themselves into the category of "Red Neck", completely over-looking the first comment. Instead of accepting the compliment, they flew directly to the derogatory remark.

The alarming occurance of "hate speech" in all forms on the internet has caused us all to become over sensitive and defensive. We now react to slights, both real and imagined, without thought or hesitation. Agression. I left that Facebook page to avoid agression.....but it seems to have followed.

You are all welcome on this forum if you really want to learn. But, you must be CIVIL. We older members tend to bite at each other regularly, but that comes from years of acquaintance....someday, we might know you as well, but right now we do not. If you've simply come looking for a fight...have the courtesy to go home, as I did.
