Talking My singing chickens

Hey guys - I'm new here. Nice to meet you all!

I have 8 chickens of my own, who have been quite the little superstars (and divas might I add!).

My boyfriend is an aspiring jingle writer who has won several national contests. His latest entry for Wonderful Pistachios, features our beautiful chicks! I firmly believe he made the top 10 out of 650 videos because of them!

If you'd like to take a look at the fun video, please go to: http://www.getcrackin.com/contest/

Click on the "Vote" tab , select the "farmers get crackin" video, and then click the thumbs up if you like it.

Fun facts about the film stars (chickens):
They are 1 1/2 Years old.
They are free range.
Live in North Central Massachusetts.
There are 2 Reds, 2 White Leghorns and 4 Blue Andalusians.
Their 3-level coop was home built & uses a recycled window from an old house for the front.
They are all natural - only fed natural layer pellets, filtered well water and anything they find when scratching around the yard.
They were bought by mail order from McMurray Hatchery
They supply friends & family with dozens upon dozens of great tasting farm fresh eggs.
They are camera shy but full of personality.

-Heather

De gustibus...

I suppose manners are passé these days, but an introduction that hints at help for your boyfriend’s career (to wit, ‘vote’) seems a bit…foul. That and thinking chickens are divas.

Enjoy your well watered movie stars.

She got the responses she wanted from the BYC crowd.

Ah.

I really did hesitate responding, but her post is just too blatant.

BYC must draw an odd lot over their end. I wish I had more time to look it over, but then it might do harm to my blood pressure, and one can have only so much Gluehwein.

Let me take this moment to wish you a Happy Christmas, Evy, and all the best for you and yours in the New Year.

Richard

The same to you, Richard, & to all my friends in the poultry world. I've really missed seeing everyone this fall.

Unhappy Apologies

I apologize if I offended anyone. I truly thought that it'd make sense to show this to other chicken lovers. Yes, I also posted over at BYF, but it wasn't to spam anyone. It's a cute harmless video that is fun to watch. I'm proud of my singing chicks and wanted to share it. I have lurked these forums quite a bit over the past few years when I've needed information. The last thing I wanted was to be a bother.

My apologies.

You weren't a bother. If you ever have questions about the birds health or behaviour, we hope you'll come here for knowledgable answers. We just don't have a lot of patience for the misinformation & nonsense that BYC promotes. Poultry has become very popular but the bottom line is that they aren't house pets & most of us here don't believe in treating them as such. We are more than willing to share many years of practical experience with anyone wanting to learn.

I liked it! Maybe that's because we are former(?) backyarders and we like pistachios. Keep up the good work and good luck with the contest!

Sure, it's funny and cute, but my first reaction to the post was that it was a taunt by someone looking to create heated arguments. Phrases like free range, personality, all natural, hatchery, divas. etc, in some contexts are often fighting words for serious poultry keepers. It's not surprising that it was a big hit over at BYC, where the idiots rein. It would be nice if we could enjoy a cute little skit like that for what it is, but too many people nowadays actually think that animals behave like that. I don't like seeing that reinforced.
Heather, I think that it might help you if you understand the difference as chicken lovers being often emotional, easily amused and child-like in their approach to everything, including education, and poultry aficionados as being serious students of their animals. Many of us are aficionados here. The chicken lovers are over at BYC.

I voted for you! It's difficult for me to even get a good picture of any of my birds so I know that video took a lot of work.

I can never put down pistachios once I get to eating them. Always at Christmas, there is someone who sends one of those big bags of them I eat them until I am stuffed.

Good Luck to You!

It looks as though the contest is closed and winners decided. Is it possible to still view the video through getcrackin? I couldn't find it.
